What is Retro Style
Retro style refers to things that have become aesthetically and functionally trendy again after being out of style for a period of time. For example, retro furniture harkens back to styles popular in the twentieth century, particularly in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
Evolution of Retro Style Furniture
Mid-century modern dining tables with chrome features and a streamlined appearance set against a brightly patterned wallpaper backdrop are examples of retro style furniture from the 1950s.
In the 1960s, retro design in that era became more playful, with vibrant patterns and splashes of color. Despite this, low coffee tables and sideboards remained popular during this period.
During the 1970s, the retro look favored chunkier, bulkier, and less streamlined furniture. The previous decade's vivid hues were replaced by more earthy tones of green and brown, as well as autumn colors.
